Wellness Wednesday: Not Sure Why Yoga is Beneficial, Watch This!

I consider myself moderately fit and more flexible than the average person, but not as much as this chick.

I know that sounds like boasting, but I had years of dancing and sports that forced me to be supple. Believe me, without threats of injury or not being able to do a grand plie in ballet class, I would probably now be a stiff as a board.

A few years ago I began doing yoga at home to help stretch out my muscles, which have increasingly become tighter since I stopped regular exercise. It was only recently I became SO aware of the true benefits of yoga for your mind and body.

I've taken a few classes with a local teacher who not only had my legs, arms, and butt feeling things they had never felt before, but it brought my mind and my soul to a place I didn't think I could get to in a warm, dimly-lit room with a bunch of strangers.

Yoga is like prayer for your body. You reflect, show gratitude and then guide your physical being through seemingly impossible poses until it becomes fluid and second nature.

I love how doing something so simple as standing still with hands clasped at your heart can feel like you are trying to fight against the gravity of the earth. I love how it quiets my constantly running mind and allows me to go to a place I'm usually too busy to visit. And I love how sleek and strong I feel after it. That being said, its one of the hardest workouts I have EVER done.

Then I came across this video and I seriously almost shit my pants. This women is my yoga crush. She has trained her muscles to do things that mine would laugh at.

Just watching her move makes me want to do downward dog all flippin' day. Check her out...I promise you will be in awe.

How do you practice mind-body wellness?
