I was recently told by a respected and smart Physican's Assistant, who has a private Holistic Healing and Nutrition practice that I need to cut back on the sugar. Instead of a generous 2 teaspoons full in my morning coffee she suggested I use....honey?
Now I don't know about you, but I have a certain ratio of organic coffee/ raw sugar/ almond milk to make my perfect pick-me-up when my face still wants to be nestled firmly in the pillow. Yes sometimes I may substitute cream, or a splash of vanilla but I've come a LONG way!
I wanted to marry young Michael Jackson |
Recently, trying to pursue more healthy alternatives, I began purchasing Nature's Place Organic coffee. I figured if I was going to drink it EVERYDAY then it should be pesticide and chemical free.
I thought I was doing good.
Then something happened. I found a new breakfast lover of sorts. My Brevillle juicer! This sounds like it would be a good thing...but you are OH so wrong.
I was eager to see all the benefits of juicing fresh fruits and veggies I had read about in Crazy, Sexy, Diet and watched in Hungry for Change. The problem was, my kitchen counter space didn't permit me to have both the juicer and my coffee pot.
So, I made daring move, and tucked my coffee pot onto the top shelf of my pantry. It felt weird for a while, but once I got juicing I forgot all about that warm cup of energy I had grown to love.
Here is where my rapid decline back into sugary-coated coffeeland began.
Without my daily habit of homemade coffee, I began searching out other sources when I ran around town doing errands. But as you might have guessed, most gas stations or even chains like my beloved Dunkin Donuts don't aid us in making healthy choices.
At D&D you have a plethora of syrups, favoring, creams, and sugars that basically can give you your daily intake of sugar if you aren't careful. Then I came across the crack of all coffee creamers at my local gas station!
Beware, you might not be able to turn away from it's intoxicating gaze......
YORK PEPPERMINT PATTIE CREAMER!!!!!!
WHAT THE HELL!!!
I was doing SO good, then this delicious temptress had to swirl her way into the room promising the cool refreshing taste of York Peppermint Patties!!!!!
Hurry! Look away!!
Once I discovered this yummy alternative I couldn't stop myself. I started off with a small, then a large, then a iced coffee, and then at 8 o'clock one night on my way to a Holistic Moms Meeting, I picked up an EXTRA large one to sip on (and then hid it in the corner to avoid public humiliation).
I realize I have a problem and that I'm a holy holistic hypocrite!
In an effort to shield you from the guilt and
So I ran down to the gas station and bravely took this picture of the container.

haha... so funny! My achilles heal is definitely chocolate. :-)Have you tried Bulletproof coffee? It was what broke my love of starbucks and other coffee. Basically, you mix a cup of coffee with a tablespoon each of grassfed, unsalted butter (I use kerrygold) and coconut oil with a little stevia and vanilla in a blender. Makes a starbucks worthy latte, you get your good fats in and no artificial oils...
I have never heard of such a concotion, but it sounds delish! You always have the best recipes! Thanks Katie!!
