Wellness Wednesday: Reflections of My first Birth as a Doula

Sorry I skipped the post I had planned for today, but  I attended my first birth as a doula, and I wanted to share the experience with you all. Let me know what you think!

Do you think medical interventions are overly used in labor & delivery?

Congratulations to the new parents. Welcome baby boy!

I totally agree with the fact that C-sections are pushed way too much. I am the mother of two girls and I had two very different experiences. In trying to find an OB I was looking for one that did not have a high percent of c-sections. all my friends seemed to have c-sections by this one dr. I was pass my ED with my first and body started labor on it's own stayed home for 15 hours until I could not handle the pain.. I had bad back labor. But arrived at the hospital at 5 cm. My dr. broke my water and 4 hrs later met my daughter. My second daughter I noticed that my EDD was a day after my Dr's planned easter vacation. I believe she sent me to the hospital after a normal Dr's visit because She was going away for the four days. I was not in any pain or anything and tried to vocalize that I would rather wait but I felt like I was not heard. even the drs at the hospital wanted to send me home because. Luckily I did not have any other intervention except for having my water broken and my body and baby were able to be delivered naturally. But this is not always the case. I think Dr's like c-sections or inducing because they are easier t plan. Every person I know that was induced because there were no signs of labor ended u with c-sections. hopefully you can help women have a voice.

Anon, thank you for sharing your birth stories. It's such a personal experience that is hard to judge. I just knew in my gut this decision was made because of unnecessary pressure from the OB. It's a shame they are taught to fear birth, instead of embracing it.
